Assignment 2 -End of Chapter : Process Control & SiS

To my student of DPE3/S1 (semester Jun 2011)

This is your assignment that you need to done this semester. You are need to organize industrial visit in this month. I have attach your assignment questions and features of  plant for your visited from my attachment.

End of Chapter PC SiS

Assignment 1 : Discuss, Presentation & Answer

To my student of DPE3/S1 (semester Jun 2011)

I apologize because unable to make your class because i  attend course for THREE week. So we will start our class back on 27 September. For avoided you from wasting your time,  I provide your class with assignment which made in group where your group need to discuss, present and answering.

You need to divide your class in FOUR (4) groups which each group must be consist SEVEN (7) members only. Every group must choose ONE (1) chapter from FOUR (4) chapters below. Your group need to discuss and make presentation about your discussion. Schedule arrangement for presentation will be picked randomly so every group must be ready with your presentation. The presenter also will be picked randomly by me so every member of group must understand about overall of your presentation. You can referred to GP313 module note and related book about your discussion. Furthermore, I will give some questions during your presentation for your group to answered that question for evaluate your understanding. Every group must be submitting your presentation in softcopy to me on 27 Sept 2011.

Why you need to lesson GP313?

Before we go further into this course, firstly you must know why you need to lesson it. so I provide the detail of this course including suitable references like below;

SYNOPSIS

PROCESS INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL provides knowledge about measurement equipment used in the industry, understanding basic principle and the job lists of instruments. Exposure will include the basic theory, construction, operation and the usage of pneumatic equipment, control valve, transmitter, converter and controller. Students will understand the basic principle for control system and its usage according to general situation.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Explain the fundamental of process control system and working principle of plant equipments used in the process plant.
  2. Handle the measurement and basic process control system in process plant.
  3. Discuss the suitable safety interlock system, process controller and plant equipments using on the process plant.

GP 313 LESSON CLASS - 1ST CHAPTER

I want say hello to all my student had been register to my class; Process Instrumentation and Control. Today should be our first class lesson for safety of during your lab but i have important thing need to do. So i want to apologize for this occur. Actually I very excited to see you in this class. The next class on Tuesday, I also can't able to conducted your class so I will give you  the note in chapter one  for my class. I want you read this note and ready to your first quiz in my next class on Thursday. If you have any questions, you just send your comment through this blog.

PLC tu apa?

Fundamental PLC

Here slide presentation for fundamental PLC .

What Is A Control Valve?

Process plants consist of hundreds, or even thousands, of control loops all networked together to produce a product to be offered for sale. Each of these control loops is designed to keep some important process variable such as pressure, flow, level, temperature, etc. within a required operating range to ensure the quality of the end product. Each of these loops receives and internally creates disturbances that detrimentally affect the process variable, and interaction from other loops in the network provides disturbances that influence the process
variable.

To reduce the effect of these load disturbances, sensors and transmitters collect information about the process variable and its relationship to some desired set point. A controller then
processes this information and decides what must be done to get the process variable back to where it should be after a load disturbance occurs. When all the measuring, comparing, and calculating are done, some type of final control element must implement the strategy selected
by the controller.

The most common final control element in the process control industries is the control valve. The control valve manipulates a flowing fluid, such as gas, steam, water, or chemical compounds, to compensate for the load disturbance and keep the regulated process variable as close as possible to the desired set point.

Many people who talk about control valves or valves are really referring to a control valve assembly. The control valve assembly typically consists of the valve body, the internal trim parts, an actuator to provide the motive power to operate the valve, and a variety of additional valve accessories, which can include positioners, transducers, supply pressure regulators, manual operators, snubbers, or limit switches.

Other chapters of this handbook supply more detail about each of these control valve assembly components. Whether it is called a valve, control valve or a control valve assembly, is not as important as recognizing that the control valve is a critical part of the control loop. It is not accurate to say that the control valve is the most important part of the loop. It is useful to think of a control loop as an instrumentation chain. Like any other chain, the whole chain is only as good as its weakest link. It is important to ensure that the control valve is not the weakest link.

Following are definitions for process control, sliding-stem control valve, rotary-shaft control valve, and other control valve functions and characteristics terminology.
